"Dreaming Dreams"
My husband, John Buren Compton, was a true native of Branson, Missouri. His family
had settled in the area known as Compton Ridge by his great grandfather John Compton. He was called Dr. John, horse and people doctor, married to a full blood Cherokee Squaw. Johnnie, like his predecessor, was a lover of horses and truly everything the Ozarks Mountains offered. He also had that nature of ‘Show Me’ and I will believe… if you put your hand in a lion’s cage and get bit, you don’t do it again, cause it could get bit off, so trust was hard for him. No, he wasn’t a trusting man. He was a straight shooter, though, and looked at life in a very real, black and white manner. This blunt nature of his was often taken wrong, people’s sensibilities were challenged when faced with a direct answer or his direct way.
Johnnie was the consummate storyteller, like many Branson, MO natives. He could spin a tale like few others and would laugh harder than most in the telling of them. This, to me, was because he relived every story, told it as if it were happening then. A true gift that will be missed so much by all that knew him.
Over my years of marriage to Johnnie, 25 in all, he struggled with Faith in God. That “Show me” nature would get in the way of depending on an unseen hand to guide him down life’s path. The Lord knew and understood this about my Johnnie and when he would grapple with certain topics, such as Faith, the Lord would often give him a dream. I have compiled these many dreams and hope to share them with all of you. Johnnie was a man that loved the Lord. His many encounters with God brought him even closer and revealed to Johnnie the Love and Everlasting Mercy that Jesus has for us all. It was his desire to have these shared at some time, so I am doing that now. I trust you will enjoy and learn from them as he did.
Joel 2:28
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I shall pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions… (Emphasis is mine)
